Power of Veto Competition #3

Catch 21

Welcome houseguests to your third Power of Veto competition. Tonight you will be playing Catch 21.

This competition will run very similar to the game show of the same name. Your goal is to be the first one to 21. I will explain though since this may confuse some of you.

I have here, a deck of 52 cards – the average amount of cards in a normal deck.
Each card represents a number. 2-10 are worth the same value as the number on them. Face cards(jacks, queens and kings) are worth 10. An ace can be worth one of two numbers. It can either be a one or it can be an eleven. It is generally a card you WANT to have.

So say your starting card is an ace, and then you receive an eight, your score
would look like so:


Player 1 – 12

Player 2 – 7

YOU – 9/19

It continues like that until you get a card that when added with eleven goes over 21(in which case, it is added to the 1) or until you get 21. So say your current score is 9/19 and you receive a 4, it would become: 13, since if added to your 19 it would be 23, which goes over 21 and you would bust. Aces are definitely a useful card to have.

You all start off with one card which will be given to each of you randomly. The 52
cards have been “shuffled” by random.org. Then once you each have your cards, the rounds begin.

Each round their will be a question about something basically pointless that nobody cares about, with 3 possible answers. One is correct, two are incorrect. You may only guess once. The first person to guess the correct answer on this thread after the question is posted wins that round. When you win a round, I will draw the next top card and tell you what it is.

You then choose whether or not you want to keep the card, which adds to your current score or pass it to another player of your choice, adding to their score. If a player's score exceeds 21 then they bust and are out of the competition.

If you win a round and keep a card, and feel satisfied with your score, you may freeze. This means you no longer compete in the rest of the rounds and can not get any more cards passed to you and your score stays the same. By doing this you hope that everyone else will bust. I recommend doing this when your score is very high and unlikely to get a card that will give you 21, like say, 20. If a card is passed to you, you may not freeze.

The first person to either reach 20, or the only one left standing after everyone else
busts wins this competition and becomes the new holder of the Power of Veto.

Just because you have a high/low number, it doesn't mean anything. It's based off strategy for the most part and how you choose to play your cards.


The game will not begin until 8:35pm EST, but I am posting this ahead of time for
everyone to read and ask questions if they have any prior to. At 8:35 you will get your first round. After the winner of the round decides whether to keep the card or pass it, I will post an updated scoreboard along with the next round/question.

It's called Catch 21 because I think it's a play off the old saying "catch 22".
